This video highlights the workshop “Deacons in the World and in the Church,” held on May 31, 2025, during Convene at Everett Community College in Everett, Washington. The event gathered more than 150 clergy and laypeople from across the Episcopal Diocese of Olympia (The Episcopal Church in Western Washington) for a day of spiritual renewal, discipleship, and collaborative learning through plenary sessions and interactive workshops.
Organized by the Deacons Council and a cohort of dedicated deacons, the session focused on the distinctive vocation of deacons and the many ways they live out their ministries—both within the church and out in the wider world. In this video, several deacons share personal stories, vocational reflections, and insights drawn from their diverse ministries.
Topics covered include:
· What is the Diakonate?
· Today’s Deacons: Who Are They and What Do They Do?
· Discernment and Formation in the Diocese
The workshop was co-led by The Venerable Barbra Weza (BWeza@ecww.org) and The Venerable David Bishop(DBishop@ecww.org).
This session offers a compelling look at the diaconal call to bridge the church and the world—serving where the needs are greatest and proclaiming the Gospel through acts of compassion and justice.
